Both Ms. Vasuki and Mr. Kalidasan filed their nominations accompanied by representatives from MDMK, VCK, DMDK and TMC.

Talking to reporters after filing nomination, Ms. Vasuki said that, if elected, she would give utmost importance to solving the drinking water problem in the constituency by ensuring full implementation of Cauvery combined drinking water project.

Citing the large number of small and micro industries in Jaihindpuram area, she said that she would work for their development. “I will also work for increasing the minimum wages for the unorganised sector workers employed in these industries and ensure that they are paid their minimum assured wages.”

She assured to fulfil the long-pending demand of a burial ground for the Muslims residing in certain areas in the constituency.

Stating that she would work for alleviating traffic congestion with construction of over bridges, Ms. Vasuki said that she would also work with other representatives for overall development of Madurai. “I will work for the proper maintenance and restoration of waterbodies, including the Vaigai river,” she said, adding that she would strive to bring a cricket stadium and transform Madurai into an industrial hub.
