Vasan blames govt. for H1N1 deaths

March 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - MADURAI:

Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) leader G.K. Vasan has said that the deaths caused by swine flu could have been prevented had the State government taken preventive measures in time.

It is the government’s responsibility to take steps on a war-footing to control the spread of the virus which has already claimed 13 lives in the State.

Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Mr.Vasan accused that the public health authorities had not created adequate awareness of how to prevent swine flu and the ways to overcome the infection. “In Coimbatore alone, six persons have died already and it is time the government undertook a swine flu prevention campaign starting from rural hamlets to cities. Vaccination should be done in a big way,” he said.

On the comment reportedly made by Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe that Indian fishermen will be shot if they entered the island nation’s waters, Mr.Vasan said that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj should condemn the statement.
