‘His actions reflected a ‘poor image’ of State government’

Visiting public places and reviewing works with officials by Governor Banwarilal Purohit give an impression that the State is under the President’s rule, according to Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko.

Speaking to reporters at the airport here on Friday, he said that Governor’s actions reflected a ‘poor image’ of the government headed by Edappadi K Palaniswami.

The BJP, he alleged, was power hungry and such moves by the Governor showed that the Centre had scant respect for the elected representatives of Tamil Nadu.

“What was the need for the Governor to preside over review meetings,” he asked and demanded a response from the governments.

When people, particularly, the fishermen in the cyclone-hit Kanniyakumari district, were on the streets and practically homeless, the Chief Minister and the Deputy CM had not bothered to visit them and share their grief.

Life had been miserable for the thousands of people for the last 10 days. They had lost everything. They had no idea about their dear ones who had gone for fishing in the seas, Mr. Vaiko said.

Accusing the State government of not taking concrete steps to bring back normalcy, he said that such callousness would bring the people together and teach a lesson to those in power.

When asked to comment on the non-acceptance of actor Vishal’s nomination, he said despite all mockery, the DMK, which had the support of many secular parties, including the MDMK, would emerge victorious as the people were determined to defeat the corrupt in power.

“This RK Nagar result will be the beginning of the end for the AIADMK,” he said.
