T. Prabhu Shankar has secured All India seventh rank in the UPSC examinations, the results of which were announced on Friday.

The topper’s mother, T. Vasanthi, told The Hindu over telephone that Dr. Prabhu Shankar had studied in TVS Lakshmi Matriculation Higher Secondary School. He did his MBBS from Madurai Medical College, where he won the best outgoing student award.

After pursuing his MD at PGIMER Chandigarh, where he bagged the first rank, Dr. Prabhu Shankar is working as an assistant professor in a private medical college in Chennai now.

His father B. Thangaraj Gunalan is an officer in a nationalised bank. Dr. Prabhu Shankar, the only son to his parents, was recently married to Naveena, who is also a doctor. The family lives in Mahatma Gandhi Nagar here.

“My son aspired to become an IAS officer, while I wanted him to be a doctor…”After fulfilling my wish, he had also turned up as a topper in the UPSC…This showed only his splendid performance, a proud mother said.
