UGC-Infonet centre opened at Madurai Kamaraj University

The air-conditioned facility has 50 computers

The University Grants Commission-Infonet Centre which provides electronic access to scholarly literature over the internet in all areas of learning was opened at the Madurai Kamaraj University here recently.

Kalyani Mathivanan, Vice-Chancellor, inaugurated the fully air-conditioned centre with 50 computers and sophisticated facilities.

A press release from B. Suresh, university librarian, said that the electronic resources can be accessed round the clock by faculty members, research scholars and students.

The infonet programme is wholly funded by the UGC and it was started in MKU in the year 2004.

It provides access to 23 scholarly databases that covers subjects in humanities, languages, social sciences and science and technology.

Inflibnet has access to more than 4,000 open access journals searchable at full text article level, the release added.
