Two HMs, teacher placed under suspension

The Education department has placed under suspension, two Head Masters (HMs) of panchayat union elementary school and recommended the suspension of an aided school teacher, who were found drunk while attending a training session for election duty on May 12.

After they created a ruckus and objected to the election officer taking long time for the training session held at Keela Muslim Higher Secondary School in Paramakudi, Sub Collector G. S. Sameeran sent them for medical examination and denied them poll duty on May 16, when polling was held.

Meanwhile, based on a complaint lodged by the local Village Administrative Officer (VAO), the Paramakudi town police had registered First Information Report (FIR) against John Thomas, HM, Panchayat Union Elementary School (PUES), Mallanur, Dharmarajan, HM, PUES, Thelur and S. Raja, secondary grade teacher of St Mary’s Middle School, Orikottai, an aided school.

They were booked under sections 294 (b), 427 and 188 of IPC, read with section 134 of Representation of People Act and 4 (1) (j) of Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act.

Even as the police action was pending, Mr. Sameeran received the medical report, confirming that the three teachers were drunk while attending the training session. Acting on the order of Mr. Sameeran, J. Jesurathinam on May 18, Chief Educational Officer (in-charge) ordered the suspension of Mr. John Thomas and Dharmarajan on Thursday.
