The city police have arrested two persons in connection with the Wednesday’s robbery of a dhal trader who was relieved of a bag containing Rs.3.50 lakh at knifepoint by a three-member gang.
The police identified the accused as T. Muthuramalingam (19), A. Dilip Kumar (19) and Murugan of Kamudhi.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police (Thilagar Thidal, Crime), K. Periyannan, said that the police collected information about a few suspects, including former employees of the dhal shop located on Sayakkara street.
Sacked from shop
“We started looking for some of the suspects and zeroed in on Muthuramalingam, who was recently removed from the shop for irregular attendance,” he said.
When he was interrogated, he reportedly spilled the beans.
The police said that Muthuramalingam had watched the movements of the dhal dealer, S. Ashok Kumar (47) and hatched a conspiracy with his two friends.
“Muthuramalingam rode the motorbike and had hidden his face with a helmet. The trio intercepted the dealer on Hanumantharayar Street. While Muthuramalingam parked the bike at a distance, the other two snatched the bag,” Mr. Periyannan said.
The police have recovered Rs. 2.42 lakh from Muthuramalingam and Dilip Kumar, while Murugan was still at large.
