In his complaint, Jayakumaresh (25) of Manjalneerkayal in Tuticorin district said the robbery occurred when he was on way to his native village from Namakkal on June 28. Around 11.30 p.m., when his bus reached Mattuthavani bus stand, he alighted and walked outside the bus terminus to relive himself.

Suddenly, two men in plainclothes approached him from behind and asked for his identification card and began frisking him.

They allegedly beat him up and took away two debit cards and Rs.200 from him.

Later, they withdrew Rs.50, 000 from five ATM centres using one of the debit cards. Jayakumaresh came to know of the withdrawals a week later, when he checked the cash balance in his account. Immediately, he approached the Anna Nagar police here and lodged a complaint of theft.

Based on his complaint, a case was booked. The police verified the video footages collected from the ATM centres and picked up the three suspects on Tuesday.
