Thousands of devotees thronged the Subramaniaswamy Temple at Tirupparankundram in Madurai on Saturday to witness the car festival.

The idols of Lord Subramania Swamy and Goddess Deivanai were brought in a decorated car on the main streets from 6.30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Later special pujas were performed.

R. Pachaiyappan, Deputy Commissioner of the temple, said that the Panguni festival began on March 17 with flag hoisting and special arrangements had been made for devotees. The celestial wedding was performed on Friday and the festival comes to a close on Sunday.
