The Hindu remains Madurai’s most preferred English daily, as seen in the just-released findings of the Indian Readership Survey (IRS) for the first quarter of 2012.
The Hindu maintains a commanding average issue readership of 53,000 in the city.
Recording a growth of 6 per cent over the previous quarter, its current readership is almost four times that of all the other English dailies put together.
The growing trend prevails in the overall readership figures of Tamil Nadu, too, where the readership has gone up by 20,000 – from 10.6 lakh in IRS 2011 Q1 to 10.85 lakh in IRS 2012 Q1.
Nationally, The Hindu gained 1,38,000 readers as compared to the corresponding quarter last year: this constitutes a growth of 5.7 per cent in national readership.
The publication’s current Average Issue Readership (AIR) is 22.33 lakh.
Thus, The Hindu retains its position as the most-read English daily in South India and the third largest English newspaper nationally.
The Hindu , with its 133-year track record of editorial excellence and commitment to providing news in an interesting and engaging manner, has reinforced its supremacy as Madurai’s most preferred English daily.
