Stating that children of this generation were highly accustomed to technologies like the Internet, N. Marimuthu, Chief Educational Officer, said that it was high time the teachers stayed abreast of latest technologies so that they could leverage their knowledge at the classroom.

Speaking at the inauguration of a five-day in-service training programme for secondary-grade teachers organised by Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNCST) and Lady Doak College here on Monday, he also urged the teachers not to restrict themselves to just teaching what was there on the textbook.

The teachers should update their knowledge of their subject continuously and teach them to their students, Mr. Marimuthu said.

Highlighting that the things learned by a children in the classroom played a crucial role in their ability to understand the world and develop thoughts, he stressed on the necessity for teachers to ensure that whatever they taught was factually correct.

Rachel Regi Daniel, Vice-Principal, LDC, A. Namachivayam, Assistant Elementary Educational Officer (AEEO), Tirupparankundram, and A. Asha, AEEO (Sciences), were present. Around 50 secondary-grade teachers from government schools are participating in the training programme.
