Agitating students of Government Law College in Madurai withdrew their hunger strike on the request of Madurai Bar Association secretary A.K. Ramasamy, in Madurai on Sunday.
The students — M. Ashok Kumar, Muthu Sangu and R. Ganesh Prabhu ended their strike after five days in the presence of Mr Ramasamy and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) R. Thirunavukarasu on Sunday noon.
The three other students — M. Arif Rahman, V. Malaichamy and S. Israd who were admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital after their health condition deteriorated, were discharged from the hospital on Sunday.
The students were agitating expressing solidarity with Eelam Tamils.
Students of various engineering colleges in Madurai also went on a protest rally in the city from Race Course to the Collectorate on Sunday in support of Eelam Tamils.
However, seven lawyers, owing allegiance to the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, began their strike at New Ellis Nagar. They were led by advocate S. John.
