Special Sub-Inspector caught red-handed while accepting bribe

The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption police caught a Special Sub-Inspector of Police red-handed when he allegedly received bribe from a petitioner for not pursuing a case against him here on Wednesday. Police said Manikandan (22), son of Srinivasan of Thanakankulam, had hit an aged woman while going on his two-wheeler near Atchampathu. Nagamalai Pudukottai police had registered a case.

In a bid to strike a compromise, SSI Gunasekaran demanded money following which the youth gave him Rs.1,000. However, the SSI asked for Rs.1,500 more. Manikandan lodged a complaint with Vigilance DSP Isakki Anandan. Laying a trap, a team caught Gunasekaran, when he was receiving the money near a college in Nagamalai Pudukottai.

Chain snatching

Two cases of chain snatching were reported in Tirunagar and Iyer Bungalow area on Wednesday. The district police said in both the cases, the victims were walking home after shopping. They were wearing gold chains weighing six and five sovereigns respectively. The robbers escaped on two-wheelers after committing the crimes.
