The sixth Economic Census slated for May and June will begin in about a week’s time, officials in the Department of Statistics said here on Tuesday.
Based on the recently released provisional population data, the Census will cover every household, with members being asked 27 questions, the officials said. The enumerators will undergo training before they start work.
The officials said there were 6,380 enumeration blocks — 3,338 in rural areas and 3,042 in urban areas— in the district. A total of 2,100 enumerators and 1,063 supervisors would be involved in the work.
The objective of the Census is to collect information on household enterprises and own account enterprises run by workers with fixed premises, or without fixed premises, as well as other public and private establishments.
The exercise is conducted across all the States and Union Territories, which would ultimately provide an overall view of all establishments engaged in various economic activities in organised and unorganised sectors, officials said.
A few days ago, District Collector Anshul Mishra, who is the chairman of the District-level Monitoring Committee, reviewed the allocation of staff for the work at a meeting, which was attended by DRO Raveendran, Additional Collector Arun Sundar Dayalan, Regional Joint Director (Statistics) Ravikumar, Deputy Director (Statistics) B.Hariharadhas and senior officers from the Department of Statistics.
