May 11, 2010 05:02 pm | Updated 05:02 pm IST - MADURAI:

Collector C. Kamaraj, on Monday, ordered seizure of a goods carrier autorickshaw that was carrying 26 persons on the Ambalakaranpatti-Melur road.

The Collector directed the officials of Regional Transport Office to initiate action against the erring driver who put the life of passengers to risk.

The Collector, along with other officials including District Revenue Officer Dinesh Ponraj Oliver, was returning after inspecting the site where a Government polytechnic college has been proposed. On seeing the over-crowded vehicle carrying farmhands, he intercepted it at Attukulam.

He made the contractor, who was also travelling in the driver's cabin, to pay the workers for their bus journey. The Collector warned that stringent action would be taken against drivers for violating motor vehicle rules.
