State Bank of India (SBI) inaugurated its first SBI InTouch branch in southern districts, which aims at providing a variety of services in online self-service mode, on Bypass Road here on Thursday.

Launching the services at the branch, B. Ramesh Babu, Chief General Manager of SBI’s Local Head Office (LHO) in Chennai, said that the SBI InTouch would provide a complete digital experience for customers without dependence on bank staff.

“Staff members will, of course, be there to assist, if needed. However, customers can avail themselves of a plethora of services on their own, including opening of a bank account,” Mr. Ramesh Babu said.

He said that through the kiosks available at the branch, a customer could open a new account and get a personalised debit card printed, all within 15 minutes.

Apart from other facilities, the SBI InTouch branch will also have a Dream Zone, where customers can explore loan facilities in privacy through a large touch screen. “For instance, if a customer wants to raise a car loan, he or she can explore right from car models, dealers nearby, on-road price and loan eligibility, all at one place,” said G. Ravindranath, General Manager (NW-2) of SBI’s Chennai Circle.

“The idea was to provide services through all available platforms as per the needs of customers,” Mr. Ravindranath said, adding SBI InTouch branches would be a preferred choice for youngsters.

Mr. Ramesh Babu said that while Tamil Nadu had eight SBI InTouch branches at present, the State was likely to have 20 branches by the end of September.

Manikantan Nair, Deputy General Manager (Business and Operations) of SBI’s Madurai Module, and P.K. Mohandas, Regional Manager (Madurai), were also present.
