Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao said that Rs. 15.35 lakh of unaccounted money had been seized in the district so far ever since model code of conduct came into force on March 4.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, Mr. Rao said that those from whom money was seized had been asked to submit proof about the source of the money to reclaim it. Earlier, he carried out inspection of vehicle checks by Flying Squads and Static Surveillance Teams at Bypass Road, Kalavasal and Palanganatham.

He also inspected Thiagarajar Model Higher Secondary School in Teppakulam, St Britto Higher Secondary School in Gnanaolivupuram and Seventh Day Adventist Matriculation Higher Secondary School on Kennet Cross Road, which have been designated as polling stations for the upcoming Assembly elections.

During the inspection, he also randomly visited some of the houses to check whether those present in the house had their Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC). He also checked whether they were aware of the election date and their polling booths. Mr. Rao urged them to exercise their right to vote without fail.

Spotting a wall with slogans in the colour of a political party’s flag, he instructed the officials to erase it immediately.
