Relatives of an AIADMK cadre, who was murdered Friday night, along with members of the public blocked the road near Thevar statue at Goripalayam on Saturday demanding the arrest of all accused involved in the crime.

According to police sources, Jeyapandi (55), a resident of Karumbalai, was hacked to death around 9.15 p.m. near Law College here, by an armed gang with whom he reportedly had previous enmity in the locality.

Immediately, the body was shifted to the Government Rajaji Hospital.

A post-mortem was performed on the deceased on Saturday afternoon and the body handed over to the kin, who refused to accept it demanding the arrest of other suspects involved in the murder.

They also sought action against a police officer who they claimed failed to take action against the suspects.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Samanth Rohan Rajendra rushed to the spot and held talks with the agitators. Later, the agitators presented a petition to him and withdrew their agitation. The body was taken to Thathaneri cremation ground in a procession amidst tight police security.

When contacted, Mr. Rajendra said that five persons had been arrested so far and remanded. Police are on the lookout for other suspects.

The arrested have been identified as Vadivel, Suresh, Sitaraman, Velmurugan and Wasimalai of Karumbalai.
