A team of surgeons at Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) here saved the life of a 27-year-old woman from Sivaganga district as she was suffering from multiple complications developed during the process of delivering a baby.

The doctors said the woman was admitted to Tiruppuvanam primary health centre (PHC) on January 28 after she experienced labour pain. During the delivery, her uterus got dislocated and she was in an unconscious state.

Immediately, the patient was rushed to the GRH, where doctors resuscitated her before operating upon her.

The uterus was successfully removed and the patient was saved by the doctors.

The placentoma was not properly separated from the uterus during the delivery, which had resulted in complications.

Doctors Angayarkani, Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology department, Jayanthi Prasad, Kavitha and S.C. Ganesh Prabhu were among those who performed the rare surgery.

Two such cases were successfully handled at the GRH last year.
