An Armed Reserve Police constable has been booked for raping a woman on the promise of marrying her.

Police said that the constable, Veerakumar of Madurai City Armed Reserve, established contact with the 28-year-old woman of Kamudhi through a ‘missed’ call. Both of them nurtured their friendship over mobile phone conversation.

According to the complainant, the constable had physical intimacy with the woman on the promise of marrying her.

However, he refused to marry her after she got pregnant. The All Woman Police Station in Samayanallur on Saturday registered a case against Veerakumar for raping and cheating and under the provisions of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
