With sharp increase in arrival of cases of viral fever and dengue to Dindigul and Madurai government hospitals from Chinnalapatti, the district administration has taken up various measures to prevent possible outbreak of dengue at Chinnalapatti.
More than 200 sanitary workers mobilised from 10 town panchayats around Chinnalapatti were brought to the textile town to clear garbage on streets and clogged drains to prevent stagnation of sewage water and rainwater.
A section of sanitary workers were engaged in anti-larval measures by pouring mosquito repellent in stored water containers in houses and other places.
Fogging was carried out in fever-affected areas and in wards. Sanitary inspectors and executive officers from these 10 town panchayats too camped in the town and supervised the work.
Meanwhile, doctors and paramedical staff from Athoor and Nilakotai taluks were deployed to diagnose patients as early detection and treatment could reduce the risk of further complications.
A 60-member medical team has undertaken preventive measures and created awareness of dengue symptoms such as high fever, joint pain, retro orbital pain, skin rashes and body pain.
Deputy Director of Medical Services Gunasekaran, who was monitoring a medical camp on Sunday, suddenly fell ill. He was rushed to a private clinic at Chinnalapatti and later referred to a hospital in Dindigul after first aid.
