Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao visited a private hospital in Kuruvikkaran Salai here on Thursday and enquired about progress of patients admitted with complaints of fever.

The doctors told him that there were only three patients admitted with fever and their health condition was improving.

The Collector, who had told reporters recently that dengue cases were on the decline in the district, urged people to keep overhead tanks clean and remove garbage around their houses. He emphasised the importance of garbage disposal mechanism, “as any lethargy will lead to unclean places becoming breeding grounds for mosquitoes.”

He appreciated residents of Pankajam Colony for keeping their surroundings clean and urged them to clean their overhead tanks every week. The residents sought additional dumper bins and the Collector assured them that they would get them soon.

He slapped a fine of ₹ 1,000 on a lodge for not clearing garbage and keeping the premises unclean. Corporation health officials were directed to check whether dispensaries, cafeterias and cinema halls in the city were kept clean.
