Policeman held for harassing wife

A police constable, Senthilkumar, was arrested on the charge of attempting to murder his wife, Amuda (29).

The Koodal Pudur police arrested the constable, attached to Samayanallur traffic wing, and remanded him in judicial custody on Monday.

The police said that the constable used to beat up his wife and inflict burns with cigarettes.

On Friday, he had caused injuries on her with a knife. He was booked for attempt to murder and under the provisions of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act.

Meanwhile, unidentified persons yanked a five-sovereign gold chain from a woman, T. Sundari (36), of Tenkasi, who had come to her sister’s house in Koodal Pudur.

While both the women were walking on Chockalingam Nagar First Street, two motorbike-borne persons pulled her chain and fled from the scene around 5.30 p.m. on Monday.
