PIL against Lanka meet in Madurai

The petitioner claimed that India’s abstention would help in safeguarding the interests of Tamil fishermen.

The Madras High Court Bench here on Thursday sought a reply from the Centre to a public interest litigation (PIL) petition filed against the participation of an Indian delegation, comprising military personnel and senior government officials, in a defence conference to be held in Sri Lanka between August 18 and 20.

A Division Bench comprising Justices M. Jaichandren and R. Mahadevan sought the reply by August 12 to the PIL petition filed by Virudhunagar-based lawyer S.M. Ananthamurugan through his counsel W. Peter Ramesh Kumar. The petitioner claimed that India’s abstention would help in safeguarding the interests of Tamil fishermen.
