The much awaited decision on Syndicate nominee of Madurai Kamaraj University for the Vice-Chancellor Search Panel was taken at the Syndicate meeting held in Chennai on Wednesday.
P. Kanniappan, former Vice-Chancellor of Alagappa University and present VC of B.S.Abdur Rahman University, Chennai, has been unanimously selected as the varsity's Syndicate nominee for the three-member search committee which conducts the selection process and suggests three names to the Governor-Chancellor for him to choose a new Vice-Chancellor for MKU.
The meeting which was chaired by Additional Chief Secretary (Higher Education Department) T.S. Sridhar was attended by all Syndicate members from the university and State Government departments.
“Now that the Syndicate nominee for the VC search panel has been decided, it will be officially constituted through a gazette notification and selection process will commence immediately. A new Vice-Chancellor will be appointed soon,” M. Rajiakodi, Registrar in-charge, MKU, told The Hindu over phone after the Syndicate meting at Chennai.
The other two nominees on Search Committee are: P. Jagadeesan, former Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University who will be the Governor's nominee on the panel and C. Kothandaraman, Chairman, Sri Nagalakshmi Ammal College of Arts and Science, Pappanaickenpatti, who is the university's Senate nominee.
Dr.Rajiakodi said that the convocation will be held on March 28 and it will be attended by Higher Education Minister and Higher Education Secretary. “We are expecting a new Vice-Chancellor by then and things will move quickly now,” he added.
Besides the Registrar, the Syndicate meeting at Chennai was attended by Syndicate members ‘Agri' Ganesan, P.T.Manoharan, R.Kannan, P.Gunasekaran and Dr.Saraswathi. From the State Government side, it was attended by J. Uma Maheswari, Director of Collegiate Education, C. Vamsadhara, Director of Medical Education, and Mohammed Iqbal, Director of Legal Studies.
The MKU has been functioning without a Vice-Chancellor since April 20 last year and varsity's teaching and non-teaching staff are expecting VC appointment soon to give policy direction for academic and administrative issues.
