Over 475 students participate in annual sports meet

Students from sixty-five Corporation schools in the city took part in an annual sports meet organised by the Corporation here on Saturday.

More than 475 students from primary to senior secondary classes participated in events which included kabaddi, silambam, weightlifting, discus and javelin throw and athletic events such as running relays, long jump and high jump.

The overall award for the best boys school in sports went to the Thiru.Vi.Ka. Higher Secondary School and the award for the best girls school in sports went to Kakkai Padiniyar Girls Higher Secondary School.

Separate awards were also given to boys and girls who were the overall champions in the sports meet as part of the under 14 years, under 17 years and under 19 years categories. Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa distributed the prizes to the winning students and schools.

In his address, he said that the State government was encouraging sports through creating facilities for the same.

Commissioner C. Kathiravan and Chairperson of the Corporation School Education Committee Suganthi Ashok were present at the prize distribution ceremony.
