Who is the Mayor of Madurai city?

Googling on the Internet, one would find the right answer: V.V. Rajan Chellappa on a numerous web sites, except on the official web site of the Madurai Corporation.

The web site: >www.maduraicorporation.in has no details in the pages on Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Ward Chairmans (sic) and Councillors among the “Who's who” of the Temple city.

“404 – File or director not found” is the response on the screen on clicking these pages even 11 days after the new Mayor and 99 councillors were sworn in. “The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable” the web site says.

Officials had taken care to remove photographs and other details of previous Mayor, Deputy Mayor, councillors and Chairpersons of the previous regime, probably, after dates of local body elections were announced.

However, they goofed up in removing the same details (along with photographs) of Chairpersons of seven Standing Committees.

For those who browse the web site, the then councillor belonging to Communist Party of India (Marxist), A. Ponnuthai, is still the Chairperson on the Standing Committee on Education. So is the case with the panels on Works, Health, Accounts, Tax and Finance, Town Planning and Appointment.

Further, in the “contact us” page, the mobile numbers used by the former Mayor, G. Thenmozhi, and former Deputy Mayor, P.M. Mannan, were found.

Corporation Commissioner, S. Natarajan, said that his men were working on feeding the inputs. “There were some corrections to be incorporated. The work is on and it will be completed soon,” he said.
