A one-day old male baby that was buried alive in a private farm by unidentified persons at Iyyampatti in Chinnamanur was rescued within a few minutes by the local people on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off by children playing near the area, local people rescued the baby and called the 108 ambulance. The rescue team rushed to the spot, cleaned the soil on the baby’s body and gave first aid. When the team reached the spot, the baby’s pulse was very low. It also struggled to breathe, said eyewitnesses. After first aid, it was brought to Chinnamnur Government Hospital. The doctors said the condition of the baby was stable. Meanwhile, Collector K.S. Palanisamy directed the Social Welfare Department to adopt the baby under Cradle Baby Scheme and advised an NGO to take care of it.
