New Nellai Mayor and councillors assume office

The new Mayor of the corporation Vijila Sathyanand and the new councillors assumed office here on Tuesday.

Commissioner Ajay Yadav administered the oath of office to Ms. Vijila in a simple function held at the packed council hall.

Felicitating the incoming Mayor and the new councillors, former Industries Minister and Tirunelveli MLA Nainar Nagendran appealed to them to work hard for strengthening infrastructure, especially effective distribution of drinking water, in their respective areas so that the overall development of the corporation could be achieved.

While assuring the Mayor and the councillors of all possible assistance, Mr. Nagendran urged the councillors to spend at least two hours a day for the betterment of their wards. Minister for Khadi and Village Industries P. Senthurpandian, former Speaker P.H. Pandian, former Mayor A. Jayarani, former MP S. Murugesan were present.

Ms. Vijila, after assuming office, signed in the order for creating first group at Plus One at Pettai Corporation Higher Secondary School from the next academic year.

In the district panchayat council, senior district panchayat councillor Narayana Perumal administered the oath of office to the newly elected district panchayat councillors at a simple function held on the Collectorate premises in the presence of Collector R. Selvaraj.

District Revenue Officer B. Uma Maheshwari, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency Amanullah and Assistant Director (Horticulture) S. Raja Mohamed were present.
