New IG for South Zone takes charge

A 1992-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) Officer, Abhay Kumar Singh, on Friday assumed office as Inspector General of Police (South Zone). A Bihar native, Mr. Singh has served in the South Zone in various capacities. He had been the Superintendent of Police in Madurai district, before becoming the Deputy Inspector General of Police in Ramanathapuram Range.

He has also served as the Commissioner of Police in Tirunelveli city.

He was Additional Commissioner of Police in Chennai City, from where he has been transferred to Madurai as IG South Zone, in the place of Rajesh Das. Mr. Singh said that he would take efforts to ensure that the existing system of policing functioned meticulously.
