The e-district service, which was commissioned on June 6 to enable the public to get certificates and documents from the district administration with ease, has evoked a good response.
The programme, initiated as part of the National e-Governance Programme (NeGP), is being implemented through Common Service Centres at the Collectorate and the Madurai South Taluk Office. Officials from the district wing of National Informatics Centre (NIC) said most of the applications sought nativity and income certificates, followed by community certificates.
“We received around 180 applications for online generation of these certificates ever since the service started. People find this convenient since they simply have to submit their application request at one centre,” a senior official from the NIC said on Saturday. At least 15 people submit applications every day at the Collectorate. The applications are scanned, sent to a common online portal and dispatched to the Village Administrative Officer (VAO) of the area. “The request is looked into by the VAO and validated by a Revenue Inspector who sends it to the Tahsildar. The Tahsildhar digitally certifies it and sends it back to the e-district centre where the applicant can collect it,” said an official.
The NIC officials said they planned to extend the service to all taluk offices and Primary Agriculture Credit Centres (PACS) soon.
