New Commissioner of Police warns of tougher action on criminals

‘Efforts will be taken to involve local community in policing’

New Commissioner of Police, Madurai city, Mahesh Kumar Agarwal, has warned of tougher action against criminals and assured to make the city police more public-friendly.

The 1994-batch Indian Police Service officer, Mr. Agarwal assumed charge on Wednesday and he succeeds Shailesh Kumar Yadav, who had been transferred and posted as Inspector General of Police (South Zone).

Mr. Agarwal has been hitherto Inspector General of Police in Crime Branch - Criminal Investigation Department.

Talking to the media after assuming office, Mr. Agarwal said that the police would be tough on criminals and friendly with the public.

He said that he would take efforts for involving the local community in policing with an aim at reducing crime.

He said he would also formulate new strategies to tackle incidences of crime in the city after studying its pattern.
