In view of the North East monsoon, Collector M. Jayaraman outlined precautionary measures at a consultative meeting convened at collectorate on Friday.
He asked PWD officials to carry out inspection of tanks and channels in the district and remove encroachments for free flow of water. Schools, community halls and marriage halls should accommodate people affected by flood, if any, during the monsoon.
Moreover, the Fire service and rescue personnel should remain alert.
Besides, Highways Department should monitor the conditions of roads and bridges. Mr. Jayaraman sought the help of TWAD board officials for ensuring chlorine-treated water at the pumping stations.
The officials of corporation should take appropriate measures to ensure clean potable water for consumption.
Adequate stock of medicines and civil supplies should be made available during the season. The health care professionals should be ready to render services.
Besides taking measures for protection of livestock and crops, the departments concerned should make arrangements for claiming crop damage and compensation. The officials of Education Department should study the condition of school buildings in the district and a report should be submitted within September 15, he added.
District Revenue Officer P.Ramanasaraswathy, Corporation Commissioner N.Subbian, RDO's Tamilselvi, S.Sethuraman, Assistant Director, Panchayats, P.Thiraviam attended the meeting.
