Motorcycle-borne robbers target victims at midnight

Inflict bleeding injuries on two with knife; one hospitalised

Robbers had a field day in the city on the midnight of Saturday when they struck at three places under Karimedu police station limits alone.

Besides robbing valuables, including mobile phones and cash, the robbers had inflicted cut injuries on two of the victims. One of them had bleeding injuries on his ear and was admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital.

Police said that C. Sankar Madhavan (48) of Tamiraparani Street in Postal and Telegraph Colony, was waylaid by a trio riding a motorcycle while he was walking near Kalavasal junction. The victim, an acting driver, was assaulted by the trio who snatched ₹3,000 was snatched from him. The incident was reported at around 12.30 a.m.

Within the next 30 minutes, another person, S. Palanivel (46), of Vivekanandar Street in Karimedu, was attacked by an armed trio, suspected to be the same gang that robbed the driver in Bharathiar Street. The robbers inflicted cut injuries on the face of Palanivel due to frustration as he had nothing to part with them.

In the third incident, S. Sheik Abdullah (31) of Kamarajapuram fell prey to motorcycle-borne robbers. He was returning home on his bicycle when he was intercepted by the robbers by 1.45 a.m. near Madura Coats rail overbridge.

One of them inflicted cut injuries near his left ear with a knife and robbed ₹450 from him. “They pushed me down from the bicycle and snatched the money from me. After a while, one of them slashed a knife on me cutting a portion of the ear,” Abdullah said. The city police were caught off guard as all three incidents were reported under the Karimedu police station limits within a span of one hour.

It may be noted an armed gang of teenage boys murdered a Plus Two student when he offered resistance to part from his mobile phone near St. Mary’s school in East Veli Street.
