Emphasising the need for proper sanitation practices, Collector L. Subramanian asked the residents of Mothakam village in T. Kallupatti panchayat union to make use of government schemes and build individual household latrines (IHHLs) in their houses during the gram sabha meeting held on Monday.

On occasion of the 66th Republic Day, gram sabha meetings were held in all villages in the district.

Participating in the meeting at Mothakam, Mr. Subramanian planted saplings on the Government Higher Secondary School campus.

“It is important to ensure that your surroundings are kept clean. There is an annual award of Rs 5 lakh presented to the best village and everyone should be motivated towards working to get that honour for your village,” he told the residents.

Warning

Mr. Subramanian further asked the villagers to ensure that child marriages were not conducted in the village and warned of severe action if girls under the age of 18 were found to be married off.

“With regard to prevention of dengue, ensure that water is not stagnating near your houses and that all water storage containers are kept closed. Approach your nearest hospital or primary health centre and get necessary vaccinations as well,” he said.
