MLA alleges recruitment scam, demands enquiry

March 24, 2013 01:57 pm | Updated 01:57 pm IST - MADURAI:

A demand has been made to the State government to conduct an impartial probe into the recruitments made recently by the Madurai Corporation for the Assistant Engineer (AE) posts.

R. Annadurai, Communist Party of India (Marxist) MLA, has alleged that the appointments were not made in a transparent manner and government norms violated in the selection process.

Talking to reporters here on Saturday, he demanded that the marks scored by the 33 candidates who attended the final test and interview should be made public since there was a suspicion among people regarding the final selection.

“From the 33 candidates who attended the interview, 12 Assistant Engineers were to be appointed. But, only six were appointed and nothing is clear about the remaining posts.

Mr. Annadurai accused the Corporation authorities of not recruiting candidates from the Backward Communities in defiance of reservation norms.

According to him, there is no clarity in the resolution passed by the Corporation on how many Assistant Engineers are to be recruited. “One resolution says 12 and another says 15.” The recruitment, he said, was undertaken in December last year.

The MLA, who represents Madurai South Assembly constituency, alleged that there were rampant irregularities in giving tenders to contractors and in laying drainage system in the city. “I have sent a complaint to the Chief Minister’s office demanding action against the guilty. The government has to conduct an enquiry,” Mr. Annadurai said.
