In a gruesome incident, a five-year-old girl, identified as Rajalakshmi, was found dead in Vadipatti near here on Sunday.
Madurai Rural Police said that Rajalakshmi, daughter of Thotthan of South Street at Katchakatti, was missing since Saturday. Her parents had not informed the police about it. They were searching for the child.
On Sunday, they were in for a rude shock when some neighbours informed about a body lying abandoned in the locality. The parents identified the body as that of Rajalakshmi. The crime had come as a shock to the villagers.
Superintendent of Police M. Manohar inspected the scene of crime. A team consisting Deputy Superintendent of Police (Samayanallur sub-division) M. Suruli Raja has been formed. Preliminary inquiries suggested that the anklets worn by the child were missing. Further investigation is on.
Another murder
In another case of murder, a 21-year-old youth, Saravanan, son of Murugesan of Muniandi Koil Street at Sikkandar Chavadi in the suburbs succumbed at the Government Rajaji Hospital on Sunday.
Police said that when Saravanan was playing with his friend at the local chavadi, a wordy altercation between them resulted in exchange of blows. It is suspected that Saravanan suffered a serious injury on his neck. Excessive bleeding led to his death. Police are on the look out for the accused.
Watery grave
Two boys — Karuthapandi (8), son of Chinnasami, and Ranjith (7), son of Raman of Boothipuram near Usilampatti Taluk, died on Sunday when they got drowned in a small tank in the locality. Usilampatti Taluk police have registered a case. Similarly, there are reports of another case of drowning in Peraiyur police station limits. The police are yet to recover the body.
