Four unidentified persons robbed a woman after attacking her with a machete in Keezhavalavu on Wednesday midnight. Police said the woman, Rani (25), is living with her son Mathankumar (8) in an isolated house at Maniyampatti. Her husband Malaiyarasan is working in the Gulf.

Around midnight, some persons knocked on the door, and Mrs.Rani opened it. Suddenly, three persons barged into the house, while one of them stayed back outside to keep an eye on the surrounding.

One of the men placed the machete on Mathankumar’s neck and asked Mrs.Rani to hand him the keys of the almirah. The woman obliged, the police said.

Even as he was collecting the valuables from the almirah, Mrs.Rani tried to call the police from her mobile phone, and one of the gang members attacked her on the head with the machete.

As she raised an alarm, the gang fled with 10 sovereigns of gold, Rs.5,000 in cash and a few silver ornaments. The woman was rushed to the Government Rajaji Hospital. The Keezhavalavu police are investigating.
