Meet to lay emphasis on Sethusamudram project

October 15, 2013 12:35 pm | Updated 12:35 pm IST - MADURAI:

The Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artistes Association is organising a State-level meeting here on Saturday, demanding implementation of the Sethusamudram Ship Channel Project.

S. Tamilselvan, president of the association, told presspersons here on Monday that political parties in the State and the Centre should pitch for the implementation of the project. “Those political parties, which had vouched for the implementation of the project in their election manifestos, are remaining silent. The political leaders should put an end to ‘religious politics’ and implement the project. If implemented, it would generate employment for thousands of people, increase the economic activity along the sea and ensure better national security,” he added.

N.K. Ragupathy, retired IAS officer and former head of the project, and journalist Madhukkur Ramalingam will speak at the meeting to be held at the IMA Hall.
