Officials and employees of Madurai airport were urged to make conscious efforts to keep the airport and its surroundings clean to create a healthy atmosphere.

Speaking to them before launching a cleaning drive under Swachh Bharat programme outside the airport terminal building on Thursday, Airport Director V.V. Rao said that a clean environment was conducive for fresh thinking and good work environment.

He said that though the contribution of officials and employees of Airports Authority of India during the cleaning drive would be very minimal, it will send a positive thought among all to keep the airport and its vicinity neat and spotless.

Later, the officials led by Mr. Rao, along with sanitary workers from the airport and Madurai Corporation took up the mass cleaning exercise.

At least two tractor-loads of waste and wild growth were removed during the exercise. The officials also planted saplings on the occasion.

Deputy General Manager Kirubakaran said that the environment of not only the airport, but also its surroundings were closely monitored and discussed regularly with the district administration.
