: A 39-year-old man allegedly killed his younger brother and his wife over a dispute on partitioning an immovable family property at Karakeni village near T. Kallupatti in the district on Wednesday.

Madurai District police said Ramasami had three sons and a daughter.

His sons – Marimuthu (39), Davamani (37) and Narayanan (35) – and daughter Nadia (30) had differences over sharing a farm which was in the name of their father, who had died.

When Davamani and his wife Muthurakku were working in the farm on Wednesday, Marimuthu spotted them and picked a wordy altercation.

In a fit of anger, he allegedly hurled chilly powder on the faces of his brother and sister-in-law. Then, Marimuthu took an ‘aruval’ and assaulted both of them, in which they died on the spot.

After committing the crime, Marimuthu is said to have gone to T. Kallupatti police station and informed the police about the offence. A team of police officers rushed to the spot and recovered the two bodies and arrested the accused.

The murder weapon was also seized. Further investigation is on.
