G. Arumugam (40) of Thanjakoor in Sivaganga district was found murdered with multiple injuries on the Vaigai riverbed near Kamarajar bridge on Dindigul By-pass road here on Tuesday morning.

The police said that the throat of the man was slashed and the body bore several cut injuries.

Initially, the police suspected that it was a man from Samayanallur since they found a voter identity card.

The suspected person, a married man, had eloped with another married woman, for the second time recently. His wife too confirmed that it was her husband. However, his father stoutly denied it.

Meanwhile, investigation by Sellur police revealed that the deceased was Arumugam. His family members had identified him, the police said.

Arumugam, who had family problems, left his home in Sivaganga district and had been living here for the last few months.

The police suspect that a land dispute in his village could have been the motive behind the murder. The body has been kept at Government Rajaji Hospital here. The Sellur police are investigating.
