The Mahila Court here on Monday awarded triple life sentence and 24-year jail term to Kaleeswaran (42) in a twin murder case. It also slapped a fine of ₹ 5,000 on him under various sections of the IPC.
The prosecution said the accused had had an illicit relationship with a 40-year-old woman belonging to Balasamudram in Palani block. When she had an affair with Senthil Kumar (40) of the same area, Kaleeswaran objected.
In a fit of anger, Kaleeswaran killed her and Senthil Kumar on February 23, 2014.
He stole ₹ 23 lakh from the woman’s house and abducted her 13-year-old daughter.
Cases were registered against him.
When Kaleeswaran returned to Palani on June 8, 2014, the police arrested and produced him before the court.
Investigations revealed that Kaleeswaran had sexually harassed the minor girl, when she was in his custody.
Mahila Court Judge K. Karunanidhi awarded triple life sentence and a 24-year jail term for the double murder and for abducting a minor girl and slapped ₹5,000 as fine.
If he failed to pay the fine, he would have to undergo imprisonment for 30 more months, the Mahila Court judge also said.
Later, Kaleeswaran was lodged in Madurai prison.
