In the wake of a baby going missing from the Government Rajaji Hospital recently, Collector Anshul Mishra has urged in-patients to be always on the alert.
He termed the incident shameful while speaking to media persons after commissioning few facilities at the men’s hostel of the Madurai Medical College on Wednesday.
“While we can’t deploy policemen at the hospital round-the-clock, talks are on with two security agencies to augment manpower,” he said. The Public Works Department (PWD) had been instructed to install a couple of CCTV cameras outside the maternity ward to prevent incidents of child theft.
The facilities commissioned at the hostel include a reverse osmosis (RO) plant at the recently-renovated mess, new equipment for the gym and an LED television for the TV room. Dean N. Mohan said that 470 hostel inmates had raised Rs. 1.5 lakh as their contribution while the government provided Rs. 4 lakh for providing these amenities under the Self-Sufficiency Scheme (SSS).
