After nearly a decade, Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) here is going to recruit non-teaching staff on permanent basis as per government norms and pay scale.
The university has invited applications to fill up 211 vacancies — 176 for clerks and 35 for SWGs (sweeper, watchmen and gardener). Kalyani Mathivanan, Vice-Chancellor, told The Hindu on Tuesday that the increasing requirement of staff for effective administration warranted the recruitment move. The posts to be filled were sanctioned in 1996. Reservation norms would be followed. Since several employees retired in the recent years, administrative work suffered for want of manpower.
The work could not be managed with temporary staff, who were on consolidated salary basis. If the temporary non-teaching staff members were eligible, they could apply for the called for posts. Their experience would help them in selection. The last date to apply was December 28, and the recruitment process would be expedited.
Registrar in-charge K.Pitchumani also expressed that hardships were faced because of shortage of staff in clerk cadre as every year employees had been retiring from service. A couple of years back, vacancies of teaching staff were filled up.
