₹5.72-crore settlements awarded

Over 3,900 cases disposed of at National Lok Adalat

District courts and subordinate judicial courts in Ramanathapuram/Sivaganga districts have disposed of more than 3,900 cases and awarded settlements for total amount of ₹5.72 crore to the litigants in the National Lok Adalat held on Saturday.

Twenty-one benches — six benches at the district headquarters and 15 benches at taluk headquarters at Mudukulathur, Kamudhi, Paramakudi, Thiruvadanai and Rameswaram —took up 3,631 compoundable criminal cases, motor accident claim original petition and family dispute cases for settlement and disposed of 2,367 cases in the Lok Adalat, organised by the District Legal Services Authority in Ramanathaouram. The 21 benches awarded settlements for ₹3.19 crore, officials said.

Principle District Judge A. Kayalvizhi, who is the chairperson of the legal services authority, inaugurated the Lok Adalat and chaired a bench at the district court. The other benches were headed by Additional Judge D. Lingeswaran, Chief Judicial Magistrate T.N. Anilkumar, Sub-Judge M. Preetha, Sub-Judge C. Sornakumar and District Munsiff K.S. Rajesh Kumar.

Advocates – N. Vijayaraj, A. Nambu Narayanan, N. Manoranjitham, S. Harshad Hussain, M. Murugesan served as advocate members.

In Sivaganga, the National Lok Adalat was inaugurated by Principal District Judge S. Saravanaperumal. Twelve benches, including five at the district court, and others at the taluk headquarters in Karaikudi, Devakottai, Tirupattur, Ilayankudi and Manamadurai took up 1,992 cases and settled 1,546 cases.

The benches awarded settlements for ₹2.53 crore to the litigants, K. Manimekalai, Junior Administrative Assistant, District Legal Services Authority, said.

The benches at the district court were headed by Fast Track Family Court Judge A. Subramanian, CJM R. Radhika, Sub-Judge R. Selvakumar, Munsiff Judge N. Gnanasambandam, Sub-Judge P. Vadivelu and Judicial Magistrate R. Lalitha Rani. Advocates M. Balasubramanian, K. Sethupandian, K. Kalanjia Raja, K. Tamil Selvan and R. Kamaraj Pandian served as advocate members in the benches, she said.
