The Hindu in association with Thyrocare and Kanniyakumari District Kabbadi Association organised a two-day State-level kabbadi tournament here on Saturday.
Collector Sajjan Singh R. Chavan, chief guest, declared open the tournament at Anna stadium. A total of 42 teams registered for participation.
The match began at 9.30 a.m. Forty matches were completed till 6 p.m. and matches were scheduled to be held till 10 p.m. Teams which excelled would play in the quarter finals on Sunday morning. Subsequently, the semifinal match and the finals would be held on the same day, said S. Subash, secretary of the association.
The tournament was sponsored by Black Thunder, Ortho One, Suguna Pumps and Motors, Amateur Kabaddi Association, Tamil Nadu, and Neelambari Events Orchestra, sources said.
