Land reserved by the government for future use had been allegedly encroached upon by the granite company
After sealing PRP Granite Company near here on Thursday, authorities on Friday took steps to issue look out circular (LOC) notices through appropriate Central agencies against some of the granite company owners/partners/directors and representatives.
According to highly placed sources, the police have requested Immigration Department officials to issue the circulars at all airports against some of the prominent granite company owners/partners/directors, including P. R. Palanichamy, who are at large.
Apart from this, bankers have been given letters by investigating officers to freeze the accounts of granite companies that are being examined.
“As part of the investigation, we have to carry out physical verification of the transactions. Hence, we have requested the banks to freeze the accounts until further orders,” an investigation officer said.
A senior officer said that after criminal cases were registered against the granite firms, the police had issued summons to partners/representatives for inquiry by the officers concerned. “But, as there was no response, we have taken steps to issue the LOC.” District Collector Anshul Mishra told The Hindu that the officials, who were assigned with different tasks of conducting inspection in PRP Granites since Thursday, unravelled many instances of violations and encroachments.
Channels destroyed
The PWD channels inside the factory had been destroyed. Land reserved by the government for future use, categorised as prohibitory order passbook (POP) land, had been allegedly encroached upon by the granite company.
The district administration had so far completed inspection of 133 granite quarries out of the 175 quarries in which 18 teams were on the job, he added.
In Chennai, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa held a meeting with senior Ministers and officials on the issue of granite quarries.
PRP was small time farmer working in theni for quite long time . All of a sudden he became granite king. His lavish wealth was questioned .

At a time when the whole country is witnessing agitations and heated
debates both inside and outside Parliament , the states have failed to
enforce laws in their ruling territories and prevent plundering of
limited natural resources. Let us hope this latest granite scam which
gets added to the unending list of scams awakens those in seat of power
from their apathetic slumber to make amends and preserve these vital
natural resources of the country.

officials who are part of this looting should be arrested and put in
jail.

I was born and bought up in Madurai. Last year I visited Madurai and surrouding areas for a pilgrimage. The place looked devasted with the hillocks razed down. The only remains now is the Yanna malai. The rest of them are not simply there.
We feel proud to be sons of the soil. But some of them are destroying thier own motherland for foriegner's benefit. Do you think minerals are not available in US, UK or France? They have plentiful. They are not renewable like trees and cannot grow if you raze.They protect them for thier children. They are buying precious granite for a silly price from traitors. The Madurai citizens are losing their natural minerals, inviting 'climate change', causing health hazards to themselves, thier children and their generations to come.

TN govt should act on irregularities done by AIAdmk persons instead of just going for DMK criminals. People have already lost confidence because the administration is simply broke. Corruption at grassroots prevails all over the state adding to woes of people along with loac of basic infrastructre. Moving bureacrats seems to be order of day and they are under the mercy of local MLA's. Too pathetic.
