Demanding the government to fulfil their 20-point demands, Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Post Graduate Teachers’ Association observed a day-long fast here as part of a State-wide protest on Sunday.

Their key demands included increasing the pay for evaluating the answer sheets for Plus Two examinations to ₹15 per paper.

They also demanded that hall supervisors and flying squad members deployed during the examination be paid ₹400 and ₹500 per day respectively.

“To improve transparency and prevent malpractices, Chief Education Officers should be transferred to other districts during the examinations,” the speakers said.

Chief Invigilators and places of assignment for other officials be randomly chosen using software, the association said.

Other demands of the teachers included withdrawal of the Contributory Pension Scheme and formation of a separate Directorate for Higher Secondary Education.

Functionaries and members from Madurai, Theni, Virudhunagar, Dindigul, Tirunelveli, Kanniyakumari, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram districts participated in the protest here, which was coordinated by Madurai zone of the association.
