House burgled

An unidentified gang stole 24 sovereigns of gold jewels, ₹.30,000 and two lap tops worth ₹. 1 lakh from a house on Gandhi Nagar Main Road in Batlagundu near here on Monday night.

The police said that the gang broke open the house and looted the valuables while the houseowner, Valarmathi, had gone to Madurai to meet her son. The gang also damaged the CCTV camera fitted in the portico of the house. They had thrown the camera near the compound.

Acting on a complaint lodged this morning, the police have registered a case and are investigating. Fingerprint experts were pressed into service. The CCTV footage showed a youth entering the house while speaking over a mobile phone. The police were tracing the mobile number also.
